Project: Mt Mauganui Retirement Village, New Zealand Project Description: The proposed development is comprised of 11 buildings, each stepped with heights of 3, 4 and 5 storey.Buildings were sited to facilitate staging. Apartments were to cater for independent, medium care studios and high care nursing facilities in an environment that could encourage community involvement.These proposed 395 units, together with a further 3,500 m² of community facilities was designed for the seaside village of Mt. Maunganui in New Zealand. Indoor facilities proposed are multi-purpose rooms, computer rooms, gym, billiards room, card rooms,hairdresser, theatre, entertainment lounge, dining, kitchen and lounge rooms as well as hydro-therapy spas and pools and medical rooms for visiting doctors, physiotherapists etc. Outdoor facilities of bowls and tennis courts have also been designed within the fully landscaped gardens with the central lake becoming the focal point for the community building and surrounding apartments. Detailed articulation of the horizontal and vertical planes was incorporated to make these buildings sympathetic to the human scale and reduce their bulk. As well as catering for ‘aging in place’ this development seeks to fulfill the learning, physical, social, family and spiritual needs of the residents and encourage a sense of community. |
