Project: Logan Waste Services

Project Description:

Completed in 2000 this ESD office and training complex utilizes prefabricated office systems & employs solar passive design. Flexible envelope design, which features thermosyphon and fernery for thermal control, can be manipulated to run in passive, active or hybrid mode depending on the need. Other ESD features include:
  • natural ventilation to toilets and natural ventilation option to office areas,
  • development of complimentary landscape areas to assist passive design elements of the building,
  • collection of rainwater and integration of its storage in the structure,
  • minimization of toxic chemicals including: pvc minimization & voc’s reduction
  • demountable partitions for future flexibility,
  • energy efficient lights and appliances and glare control via material selection,
  • integration of disabled facilities and provision of recycling systems within the building.
  • implementation of ESD guidelines for office accommodation as recently published by Public Works Department of Queensland,
  • consideration of a solar thermal energy system,
  • development of an environmental management system during construction.
