Project Description:

This home has a contemporary modern feel achieved through the use of clean architectural lines.

Spectacular city views from this hillside site meant that the living areas had to be on the top level. The challenge was how to design an attractive and comfortable entry from the street at the bottom of the block. The solution was to design a series of interesting spaces that would add enjoyment to the journey up through the house.

The design of this house embraced the challenges associated with its small lot location. The site is only 10 meters wide and has a 1 in 6 slope up from the street. An innovative interpretation of the BCC ’Small Lot Housing Code’ was required in relation to the maximum building length, the height and the site coverage. A combination of materials and colours effectively reduced the bulk of the building and allowed it to sit comfortably in the character housing area.

The house was designed with various levels, using a split level design in response to the challenging slope. An open central stair atrium links the multiple levels. The result was a modern home catering for a luxury lifestyle featuring four bedrooms, a study and a home theatre. A large deck was integral to the design to take in the beautiful views of the city.

A simple contemporary interior design with a dramatic internal feature has been adopted.
