Brisbane suburb offers both challenge and education to its neighbours
with a holistic approach to ecological and healthy design. Rainwater is
collected for irrigation and toilet functions airflow is via cross and
thermo-syhon ventilation strategies. Low embodied energy materials and
low toxicity finishes have been selected and waste management
rigorously implemented.
It is well orientated maximising north-east aspect but
sensibly using neighbouring buildings and ridge for sun and wind
protection. Structurally a cost effective prefabricated single skin ply
wall and floor panel system utilises 30% less timber whilst the hypar
roof system funnels roof collection to a single point, maximises
daylight penetration and facilities cross ventilation.
